What is solar window film?

Updated: Feb 29

Solar window film is a sheet of strong polyester laminate treated in a variety of ways to improve the look and performance of existing windows. One side has a scratch-resistant coating and the other has an adhesive that bonds the film to the glass surface.

This window film controls the amount of sunlight entering your space, and by doing so it can dramatically help with heat reduction inside, block harmful Ultra Violet rays and also trap heat during the colder seasons to keep your spaces warm.

3M window film comes in a range of light to dark percentages that let in differing levels of sunlight. Depending on the tint percentage you use, you can change your interior aesthetic. At Eco Glass we have 3M prestige films that let in between 70 and 20 per cent of the suns light and for the night vision series between 35 and 15 per cent. Choosing a higher tint percentage will allow more light in to illuminate your interiors, while a lower one will let less light in, making your interior appear darker.

Solar window films do really work! Compared to other window covering solutions like curtains and blinds, solar window film solutions are more efficient at blocking the sun’s heat while also providing many other benefits, including:

1. Protection from the Sun’s Harmful Radiation 2. Energy Savings All Year Round 3. Reduce Glares at Home 4. Help Prevent Break-ins 5. Adds an Extra Level of Strength 6. Maximise Your Curb Appeal 7. Increase Privacy

Solar control films are an affordable and convenient option that enhances the aesthetics of your home while saving you money. Beyond that, it allows for a healthy and safe atmosphere that you and your loved ones can all enjoy.
